Restoring badly compromised teeth is critical to the overall wellness and appearance of the smile. To allow Raleigh, NC patients to productively contend with extracted or lost teeth, Dr. Vivian Throop is extremely excited to offer lifelike dental implants for tooth restoration. A dental implant consists of a sturdy post that serves as a substitute tooth root. A custom dental crown, bridge, or denture fills in for the visible part of the missing tooth (or a few teeth). When you suffer from missing teeth or require a tooth extraction, schedule a visit at City of Oaks Dental and ask about your dental implant solutions.

Dental implants at City of Oaks Dental provide a number of advantages for our patients in Raleigh, NC. As efficient replacements, dental implants:

  • May improve your self-confidence while talking and showing your teeth
  • Fuse with the jawbone to help preserve jawbone wellness and structure
  • Encourage the consumption of a diverse diet
  • Do not depend on surrounding teeth to stay in position
  • Serve as a long-lasting tooth replacement option
  • Replicate real teeth in ability and appearance
  • Yield improved chewing strength and lifespan of crowns, bridges, or dentures

Oral implants can replace any number of deteriorated teeth, ranging from one tooth to a whole mouthful. You might be considered a good candidate for implants if you have endured the loss of teeth, require extractions, or have problems with your current restoration. To work, dental implants require enough jawbone mass, healthy gum tissues, and a reliable dental environment. Sometimes, individuals could need additional services before being considered proper candidates. Dental implants might not be an option if you are an expecting mother, a tobacco user, or have specific health concerns. During your session, Dr. Throop will help you determine if implant-based solutions are right for you and your needs.

The methodology for dental implants entails the surgical placement of the post and the attachment of a lifelike restoration (like partial pieces, crowns, or bridges). When your mouth is ready for surgery, it will be numbed with local anesthesia. Oral-conscious or IV services could also be used to help you feel more at ease throughout your visit. The titanium post will be strategically positioned within your jawbone at a particular area and allowed time to fuse with the tissue via a process called osseointegration. Once the surgical area has totally healed (commonly 6 – 9 months later), Dr. Throop will place a custom fixed denture, crown, or bridge and assess the alignment of your biting surfaces.

Patients who have this treatment may experience some swelling, discoloration, and discomfort close to the treated spot. Physician-provided or over-the-counter pain medication and cold compresses can help diminish their post-treatment aches or pains. When the metal implant has integrated with the jaw and the special crown, denture, or bridge is attached, it's vital to stick to a good oral hygiene regimen with efficient brushing and flossing habits. When men and women come to City of Oaks Dental for their regular dental sessions, we will use special dental tools to clean their implants and check up on the condition of their restorations.

Owing to the innovations in contemporary dental technology, there are a number of approaches to overcoming tooth loss with the natural appearance and capabilities of dental implants. Dr. Throop is excited to perform implant-based denture, bridge, and crown alternatives as reliable tooth replacements for Raleigh, NC patients. To find out about your possibilities for restoring severely decayed or lost teeth, arrange your visit to City of Oaks Dental.

About Us
How many appointments does it take to get dental implants?

The process of getting dental implants requires a minimum of 2-3 appointments, though many patients will require additional visits depending on their oral and dental health at the outset of treatment. To begin, a comprehensive dental and oral exam will be conducted to assess the teeth, gums, bone, and other structures. X-ray imaging may be performed, and tooth extraction may also be performed to prepare the mouth for implants. If any underlying dental or oral issues, like decay or infection, are detected, treatment will need to be undertaken prior to starting the dental implant process at a subsequent appointment. After returning to have the implant(s) placed, the patient will then need to return in about 6-9 months for their permanent restoration to be attached. Additional appointments may be needed prior to this to ensure the implant is appropriately integrating with the bone.

How long do dental implants last?

The dental implant itself, meaning the titanium post that is fused with the jawbone, often lasts the remainder of a lifetime. If the attached restoration, like a crown or bridge, becomes compromised or damaged, the restoration can be replaced without having to alter the implant. Still, some incidents can damage the actual implant - like disease, infection, or trauma - in which case it may be necessary to repair or replace the post.

Should I get implants or dentures?

Patients who are missing multiple teeth in a row or a full arch of teeth often ask why they should consider implant-supported dentures over traditional (removable) dentures. With implant-supported dentures, patients can have the confidence in knowing that their dentures will not come loose or fall out while eating, talking, laughing, etc. Additionally, implant-supported dentures do not require extra maintenance, like soaking and cleaning. Instead, implant-supported dentures can be cared for just like natural teeth with brushing, flossing, rinsing, and regular dental exams and in-office cleanings.

Are dental implants painful?

During the procedure, patients are typically under local anesthesia or sedation, minimizing discomfort. Post-surgery, some pain and swelling are normal, but these symptoms are usually manageable with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medications.

How long does it take to complete the dental implant process?

The entire process can take several months to a year, including the healing period. Factors such as bone quality, the need for additional procedures, and the type of restoration being attached can influence the timeline.

Can dental implants replace multiple missing teeth?

Yes, dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth or even support full arches of teeth through techniques like implant-supported bridges or dentures.
