Whitening

We all fight discoloration in our teeth at some point, no matter how well we take care of them. This change in your enamel’s shade is natural as you eat different foods and drink beverages. Other habits and health conditions cause discolored teeth, too.

The good news is that you don’t have to hide your less-than-pearly-white smile. Whitening treatments at City of Oaks Dental are safe, effective, and affordable.

Professional Whitening Treatments

City of Oaks Dental offers professional teeth whitening treatments in-office for your convenience. Our treatments are simple and effective, getting you a healthier, whiter smile almost immediately.

For many people, all it takes is one treatment to notice a difference. Professional-grade bleaching gel applied by a trained specialist removes old stains and clears out discolored teeth. Browning and yellowing enamel is unsightly, but our professional whitening treatments leave you with a dazzling smile!

Discoloration happens naturally, especially when you’re a long-term coffee or tea drinker or you like those dark sodas. Certain long-term medications, chronic illnesses, and using nicotine also cause hard-to-remove stains.

It’s tempting to use over-the-counter whitening kits, but these can be harmful to your enamel and gums. Professional whitening treatments are a safer way to remove those stubborn stains with no harm to the teeth and gums.

However, some stains are resistant to even professional-grade treatments. If you are in the advanced stages of tooth decay, have stained teeth due to tetracycline, or your teeth are stained from fluoride exposure, talk to Dr. Throop to see if you can benefit from teeth whitening treatments or other services.

Whitening Treatment Options

Your teeth are just as unique as the rest of you. You don’t need a one-size-fits-all whitening treatment, and our office can work with you to tailor a package that fits your needs.

Some people prefer to have a specialist handle the details, getting it done and over with. If that sounds like you, talk to Dr. Throop about our in-office, quick treatment.

During your appointment, the professional-grade gel will be applied to your enamel safely. A special light is then used to help the bleaching agent absorb into your enamel. Because it helps the bleach work faster, it’s on your teeth for less time, making it safer than other whitening treatments.

After your whitening service, you can go back into your daily routine without any downtime. However, you’ll have to watch what you eat and drink for about 48 hours to make sure the food and beverage stains don’t counteract your whitening treatment

What’s in a Teeth Whitening Procedure?

How severely discolored your teeth are or aren’t makes a difference in the procedure that you can have. The standard whitening treatment takes about an hour and might be anywhere from one to three sessions.

The procedure is consistent for most people. When you come in, a hygienist will examine and clean your teeth to prepare them for your treatment. We’ll take a series of photos so you have a “before and after” to look at and check your progress.

When it’s time for the treatment, a cheek retractor will be placed into your mouth to show all your teeth off. The hygienist will put a protective liquid on your gums that keeps the whitening gel from affecting your sensitive areas. Once the liquid is in place, the bleaching gel is then applied to your teeth’s surface.

The gel will sit for the time that Dr. Throop feels is best for your teeth. While you wait, a whitening light might be used to activate the bleaching agent.

These steps are then repeated, possibly immediately, or over a period of a few weeks as necessary until your smile reaches the shade of white you are satisfied with.

The cheek retractor is removed and the gel is rinsed out of your mouth. You’ll receive some after-care instructions as to how to take care of your newly whitened teeth and any potential side effects to watch out for.

The next step is to enjoy the smile of your dreams, so when you’re ready to get there, contact City of Oaks Dental to make your appointment.
